Tokyo Sandwich Feast

From Egg Sandwiches to ¥10,000 Wagyu Delights

I'm excited to share a list of some fantastic sandwiches in Tokyo, ranging from delectable meats to glorious eggs, ham, and more. Some of these shops and bakeries are even featured in popular food magazines here. You really can't go wrong with food options in Tokyo or Japan. In my seven years here, I've only been disappointed 2-3 times, which is quite impressive.

Tokyo's culinary scene is truly fascinating. You'll see many posts on Instagram or TikTok claiming the best sushi, ramen, tempura, and so on. While I'm creating these guides, I want to emphasize that you don't actually need them. Just walking around and stumbling upon places is much more fun. It keeps you from becoming a slave to guides and constantly checking your phone. I love researching and exploring Tokyo because it's such a vast city with countless memorable spots. It's like chasing good food memories—Tokyo is truly a food heaven for whatever you crave.

To fully enjoy it, be open-minded and adventurous in trying new things. Now, let's get to the list of sandwich shops around Tokyo. I'll map them out and share details about each one below.

  • Opening hours: 8:00-18:00 (until bread is sold out)

The name 3deux1, which means "3 2 1," from French and is a pretty cool name for a sandwich shop. Even cooler is its location in the beautiful Gakugei Daigaku area, nestled between Nakameguro and Jiyugaoka. The shop specializes in sandwiches, and one of the favorites is the tuna, broccoli, basil, and feta cheese sandwich. The aroma of basil is just amazing.

Another popular option is the grilled chicken and omelette sandwich. 😊

    STABLER Shimokitazawa Meatsand

  • Address + Insta

  • TEL: 03-6452-2911

  • Opening hours: 11:00-20:00

Named after Marlon Brando's character in "The Wild One," this place really brings out the wild side with their sandwiches. I haven't seen this movie yet, by the way 😅, but I think I should. The photo above is their signature sandwich which they use 300g of tenderloin, packed with flavor—it's incredible!

Besides their meaty sandwiches, they also have other items on the menu. For example, the "Minced Pork Cutlet & Egg Sandwich" is a must-try. It's made with a specially prepared minced meat cutlet, using 100% beef tendon that's full of rich gravy, paired with a soft, runny half-boiled egg.

WAGYUMAFIA THE CUTLET SANDWICH

  • Address

  • TEL: 03-6303-2029

  • Business hours: 11:00-15:00, 16:00-21:00

WAGYUMAFIA was founded by self-taught chef-turned-wagyu expert Hisato Hamada and entrepreneur Takafumi Horie. Initially involved in the beef export business, the brand emerged from a series of private wagyu-themed dinner pop-ups.

In 2016, they opened their first members-only restaurant, The WAGYUMAFIA Progressive Kaiseki, in Tokyo. They offer 10 types of Wagyu beef cutlet sandwiches, priced over 10,000 yen.

Takafumi Horie, the entrepreneur, is a well-known figure in Japan, having successfully invested in numerous companies. There's a lot of hype around WAGYUMAFIA, covered by both international and local media, including The New York Times and Eater London.

TOYODA’S CHEESE STEAK & BBQ HATAGAYA

  • Address + Insta

  • TEL: 03-6276-6658

  • Opening Hours: 11:30-21:30

  • Closed: Wednesdays

Run by an owner who discovered cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, this shop's signature dish, the "Cheesesteak Sandwich" (1,150 yen), is a hit. I may exaggerate but once you've tasted this melty, irresistible sandwich, you'll crave it any time of the day or night.
